Beckett Hurt as Red Sox Lose in 11
Josh Beckett was forced out of the Red Sox game against the Toronto Blue Jays. In the fourth inning Beckett felt pain in his ankle on two pitches and decided to leave the game. Beckett had slipped in the bullpen while he was warming up but didn't think that it was a factor in his injury. The concern is that the injury is on Beckett's "power leg" and that he may not be ready in time for the beginning of the playoffs.
The game continued with relievers taking the Blue Jays scoreless through 11 innings before suffering a walkoff home run from Brett Lawrie. The pitch came of Dan Wheeler with two outs in the inning and was the rookie's eight home run since he was called up from Triple A ball in the beginning of August.
For Boston the 1-0 loss was the fifth in their last seven games. Their offense struggled to move runners and left three runners on third base through the first four innings.
