Oceana: a Four Star Charity According to Leading Charity Evaluator
Charity Navigator Awards Oceana Four Stars for Exceeding Industry Standards and Outperforming Most Charities in America
Oceana, the largest international organization focused solely on protecting the world’s oceans, was just awarded four stars by Charity Navigator, a leading charity evaluator based in the United States. Less than one quarter of the charities evaluated by Charity Navigator have received four stars, their highest rating. The organization awards four-star ratings for a charity’s ability to efficiently manage and grow its finances, differentiating Oceana from other charities in America, and demonstrating to the public it is worthy of their trust.
“Charity Navigator salutes Oceana’s charitable efforts,” said Charity Navigator’s Program Analyst, Diana Fischer. “Oceana’s rating is an exceptional feat, especially given the economic challenges many charities have had to face in the last year.”
As the nonprofit sector continues to grow at an unprecedented pace, savvy donors are demanding more accountability, transparency and quantifiable results from the charities they choose to support with their hard-earned dollars. “Charity Navigator’s rating is important because we know in this competitive philanthropic marketplace our donors are seeking greater assurance that their dollars are being put to good use.” said Oceana’s Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Sharpless.
Charity Navigator applies data-driven analysis to the charitable sector. The company evaluates 10 times more charities than its nearest competitor and attracts more visitors to its website than all other charity rating groups combined, thus making it the leading charity evaluator in America.
“Our irrefutable data shows that users of our site gave more than they planned to before viewing our findings, and in fact, it estimated that last year Charity Navigator influenced over $10 billion in charitable gifts,” said Ken Berger, President and Chief Executive Officer of Charity Evaluator.
