A basic diagnosis of brain function involves a complete physical exam. “We do the same tests a medical doctor would do; we just do it more thoroughly,” explains Dr. Engelbart. “We look at everything from pupil function and blood pressure to reflexes to sensation and balance and stability. We’ll take blood pressure on both sides of the body; we’ll look at pupil function: how a pupil can constrict, how well it responds to light stimulation. We don’t just look at whether the function is there, but also if it could be better. The best patients take a proactive approach to their health.”
