NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals Schedule: Orlando Magic Face Must-Win Showdown with Boston Celtics

The Orlando Magic have squandered several opportunities to put the Boston Celtics away in their Eastern Conference playoff series and if they fail again on Thursday night their season will be over. Now down 3-2 in their best-of-seven series the Magic could easily be holding that 3-2 advantage and many believe they could have already advanced.

An inability to finish games has plagued the Magic in this series and on Thursday they will need to figure out how to close a game or they could be watching the rest of the playoffs from home. A large part of Orlando’s problems come from an inability, or unwillingness, to get the ball to Dwight Howard. The Magic have relied on a perimeter game that has been exceptional in some games while costly in others and a lack of consistency has put them in their current situation.

On the other bench the Celtics have been the model of balance as they have seen several players step up and complement the play of Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen. Boston has had tremendous play from Glen Davis, Kendrick Perkins, Stephon Marbury and Eddie House, all of whom have been big components in the Celtics three wins.

For Orlando it won’t be as much about how to beat Boston but how to not beat themselves on Thursday night. The Magic have the talent to go with Howard as Rafer Alston, Rashard Lewis and Hedo Turkoglu are all capable of big numbers but they have played without an identity to this point and they will need to figure that out soon.

Boston would love to end this series tonight as the Cleveland Cavaliers await the series winner and another seven-game series for the Celtics may be too much before an Eastern Conference finals series.

Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
