House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Accuses CIA of Lying During Briefings Regarding Terror Interrogations

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in an attempt to defend herself from pressure regarding her knowledge of terror interrogation tactics, has accused the CIA of lying about the use of those tactics during a briefing when she was the leading Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.

Pelosi has long stated that she was told that waterboarding and other methods of torture had been approved as means of interrogating terror suspects but that she was never told they were actually being implemented. That contention was contradicted by one of her aides who said Pelosi had been briefed concerning the CIA’s use of waterboarding in 2003.

On Thursday Pelosi attempted to deny those allegations as she directly pointed at the CIA, declaring they had deliberately misled her by saying those methods had not been utilized. Pelosi has been one of the biggest proponents for a “truth commission” to fully uncover the facts regarding the implementation of tactics she has deemed as cruel.

Republicans immediately criticized Pelosi for her attack on the CIA and raised questions about why she didn’t raise the issue of interrogation tactics earlier when there is so much evidence pointing to her knowledge of its use.
