NBA Scores Eastern Conference Semifinals: Orlando Magic Force Game 7 with Win Over Boston Celtics

Dwight Howard scored 23 points and grabbed 22 rebounds, Rashard Lewis added 20 points and 6 boards and Rafer Alston finished with 11 points and 3 steals as the Orlando Magic used a big fourth quarter to drop the Boston Celtics 83-75 on Thursday night evening their best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series at 3-3.

Howard came out on a mission in the opening frame as he scored the Magic’s first eight points but the Celtics had their offensive game going and had a 13-8 advantage with five players putting points on the board. Orlando managed to even the score on several occasions but a pair of buckets from Brian Scalabrine gave Boston a 23-19 lead and after Mickael Pietrus pulled the Magic to within one with a three-pointer Eddie House ended the frame with a jumper to give Boston a 25-22 lead heading into the second. The Celtics scored the first six points on the second to move in front by nine and with 3:25 left in the half the lead remained nine but Orlando used an 11-2 run to tie the game at 44-44 before heading into the half trailing 46-45.

The third quarter didn’t look good for Orlando as they didn’t put point on the board for 5:12 while the Celtics built their largest lead of the game at 55-45. Howard stopped the scoreless streak with a three-point play and then it was the Celtics turn to go dry as they went the final 6:23 with just one bucket and their lead was just 62-61 heading into the fourth. Orlando grabbed the lead 66-64 after Rashard Lewis hit from 6-feet out but Rajon Rondo buried a triple to put Boston back in front with 8:11 left in the game. The two teams went back and forth and the game was knotted at 75-75 with 3:46 left in the game but then Orlando stepped up. Howard sank one of two from the foul-line and then Alston hit a bucket to push the lead to 78-75. Alston then blocked a Rondo three-pointer and Hedo Turkoglu turned that into a triple to make it 81-75 with 1:23 left and Boston had no answer.

Orlando found a way to win despite shooting just 36 percent from the field, 54 percent from the foul-line and being out-rebounded 48-42.
