The U.S. Putting Tour announced today that all active and retired military can enter its upcoming national putting championship for free if they sign up to play their first round on Wednesday, September 28.
The golf tournament takes place the week of September 26 at The Crossings in Carlsbad, California. There are six days of round-one play, from which golfers can choose a preferred day and starting time.
"We were already offering all active and retired military a 50 percent discount to enter the Championship," said USPT president, Jim Hartley. "And with Wednesday designated as Military Appreciation Day, we decided to waive the entry fee entirely for military personnel who can play on September 28."
Hartley indicated that the 50 percent savings still is in effect for all military personnel who want to play their first round on a day other than Wednesday. He said that people in the military can sign up for the free entry and the reduced-price entry on the
military golf page at the USPT website.
Hartley also noted that there are savings available for junior golfers at a
junior golf page at the website. Juniors who can play their first round on one of the first four days of the
putting championship will pay just $25 to enter. Juniors, 13-18 years old who sign up to play Round 1 on Friday or Saturday of Championship Week will pay $50.
Golfers can compete for cash prizes, including a guaranteed $10,000 first-place prize, or for merchandise prizes if they choose to play as amateurs. All participants will be in the running for the overall title of America's Best Putter and the USPT Championship trophy.
The golf tournament is open to everyone who is 13 years of age or older as of September 26, 2011. Men and women of all ages will compete together, as will amateurs and professionals. More information is available at the USPuttingTour.com website and by emailing info@usputtingtour.com.
