HS Basketball Recruiting: Brandon Knight Named No. 1 Player in 2010 Rankings

Brandon Knight, the nation’s top point guard in the class of 2010, is now ranked the No. 1 overall high school player in the nation, according to Rivals.com.

Knight becomes the second consecutive point guard to be ranked No. 1 overall by Rivals.com, following John Wall this season. Like Wall, Knight is a tall point guard who can score at will, but is unselfish and gets his teammates involved.

Knight, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound point guard from Pine Crest HS in Coral Springs, FL, moved up one spot to take the top spot in the Rivals150 as a rising high school senior. 6-foot-10 center Josh Smith (Covington HS, Kentwood, WA), the previous No. 1 player in the class of 2010, dropped to No. 5 and is now the nation’s second-best center behind 6-foot-8 Jared Sullinger (Northland HS, Columbus, OH).

Following Knight in the top ten are 6-foot-8 forward Harrison Barnes (Ames, IA), Sullinger, 6-foot-9 forward Tristan Thompson (Findlay Prep, Las Vegas, NV), Smith, 6-foot-3 guard Corey Joseph (Findlay Prep, Las Vegas, NV), 6-foot-5 guard Will Barton (Lake Clifton HS, Baltimore, MD), 6-foot-10 forward Adreian Payne (Jefferson HS, Dayton, OH), 6-foot-8 Luke Cothron (Flora McDonald Academy, Red Springs, NC), and 6-foot-9 forward Dominique Ferguson (Lawrence North HS, Indianapolis, IN).

Of the top ten, Sullinger and Thompson have already announced their college choices in Ohio State and Texas, respectively.

The city of Baltimore has three five-star prospects in the top 20 with Barton, 6-foot-3 guard Josh Selby (DeMatha HS, Hyattsville, MD), and 6-foot-8 forward Roscoe Smith (Walbrook). Selby, who is originally from Baltimore, moved to the Washington, DC area to play for the legendary program DeMatha.

The Rivals150 has seven new five-star prospects: Joseph, 6-foot-7 guard/forward Jelan Kendrick (Westlake HS, Atlanta, GA), 6-foot-5 guard Andre Dawkins (Atlantic Shores Christian, Chesapeake, VA), 6-foot-2 guard Kyrie Irving (St. Patrick HS, Elizabeth, NJ), 6-foot-6 forward Cameron Clark (Sherman, TX), 7-foot-0 Brazilian product Fabricio de Melo (Sagemont HS, Weston, FL) and 6-foot-0 guard Ryan Harrow (Walton HS, Marietta, GA).
