On June 15, 2011, The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a
safety announcement warning Type 2 Diabetes patients about the increased risk of bladder cancer if they have been taking Actos for more than 12 months, especially in higher dosages. The FDA’s announcement cited an on-going 10-year epidemiological study that is analyzing the increased risk of bladder cancer with prolonged use of Actos. The FDA also recommended that medical professionals not prescribe Actos to patients currently being treated for bladder cancer or those with a history of cancer.
