A California boy who was kidnapped nearly two weeks ago
was found in Mexico late Thursday. Authorities say 3-year-old Briant Rodriguez
was found wandering the streets of Mexicali, Mexico by a police officer.
Briant was reunited with his mother Saturday in the
border town of Calexico. He was kidnapped from his family’s home May 3 when two
armed men broke in and tied him up along with his mother and four siblings.
The Rodriguez’s home was ransacked and the suspect took
some cash and several belongings. San Bernardino County police have not
released the names of the suspects or the motive for the kidnapping for fear it
may jeopardize the investigation.
San Bernardino County Sheriff Rod Hoops said Briant
appeared to be unharmed. His hair was shoulder length when he was kidnapped and
had apparently been shaved.
“We’ve very happy that he’s alive. A 3-year-old goes
missing in this country for two weeks – sometimes it has an unhappy ending,”
Hoops said. “This one did not.”
