Packers Stop Saints on Final Play to Win NFL Opener

The NFL season kicked off last night with a thriller between the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints. In a game that was undecided until the last play the Packers showed no signs of slowing down after winning last year's Super Bowl and defeated the Saints 42-34.

On what looked to be the final play of the game New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees threw a 9-yard pass to the end zone where linebacker A.J. Hawk was called for pass interference and the ball was placed on the 1-yard line. With no time on the clock the Saints rushed Mark Ingram straight through the line and the Packers defense stopped him inches short.

Both Rodgers and Brees had spectacular games through the air as the offense's continued to score points throughout the night, but the standout plays came on special teams. Green Bay's Randall Cobb, a rookie, ran a kickoff back for a touchdown 108 yards, tying the NFL record for longest return. New Orleans offseason acquisition Darren Sproles also electrified on a punt return touchdown.

The full NFL schedule kicks off on Sunday with 28 more teams taking the field and starting the season fresh. The remaining two will play Monday night for the season's first edition of Monday Night Football.
