The San Diego blackout and power outage has inspired the U.S. Putting Tour to run a Power-Up promotion for its upcoming national putting championship, scheduled for the week of September 26 at The Crossings in Carlsbad.
Golfers can save $50 on the regular $100 entry fee into the tournament through this promotion by going to a special page at the U.S. Putting Tour's website. The savings on the entry fee into the putting championship is available at
http://www.usputtingtour.com/savings.html.
"With the power back on throughout San Diego County it's time to turn our attention back to the USPT Championship, which is just two weeks away," said USPT president, Jim Hartley. "We figured why not make the best of a bad situation by offering this special savings to golfers who want to enter the putting championship."
Hartley said that amateurs and professionals can take advantage of this savings opportunity. He also indicated that spaces are filling up for several of the Round 1 slots, particularly on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1, the final two days of first-round play.
The
putting tournament concludes on Sunday, October 2 with the final two rounds of the championship. The 72 golfers who qualify for the second round will be cut to the low 24 for Round 3, which begins at 2:00 p.m. The combined 72-hole scores from rounds 2 and 3 will determine the final order of finish.
The
San Diego golf tournament is open to men and women throughout the U.S., regardless of their playing ability or experience. Teens ages 13 to 18 also can compete. All golfers can choose whether they will compete for the cash prizes, which includes a guaranteed $10,000 for 1st place, or for merchandise prizes in order to maintain their amateur status.
Hartley encouraged golfers interested in competing in the golf event to act now while spots remain. He said that more information can be obtained by emailing info@usputtingtour.com and by visiting the USPT website.
