NBA Western Conference Finals Schedule: Los Angeles Lakers Host Denver Nuggets in Game 1 Showdown

The NBA Western Conference Finals is set and after surviving a seven-game series against the Houston Rockets the Los Angeles Lakers return to the court where they will now host the Denver Nuggets in Game 1 of the best-of-seven series on Tuesday night.

LA has been taking serious heat for their less than impressive series against and undermanned Rocket squad and now many believe they could be in trouble against a Denver Nuggets team that has been among the most impressive in the NBA playoffs. While Kobe Bryant has continued to play at a high level his supporting cast has been less than consistent as Pau Gasol, Derek Fisher, Trevor Ariza and Andrew Bynum have all had sub-par games.

Fortunately for the Lakers they will be playing at home where they posted a 36-5 mark during the regular season including a 2-0 record against the Nuggets. That home-court advantage will have to carry a Lakers team that has had little time to prepare for Denver due to their Game 7 matchup with the Rockets last Sunday.

It’s been a different story for Denver as they have had plenty of time to rest and prepare after taking care of the Dallas Mavericks in five games. They have had great play from Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Nene while their bench has come up big as well with J.R. Smith and Chris Andersen providing plenty of support.

While Denver has plenty of offensive weapons they’ll need to step up their effort on the defensive end of the court as the Lakers will look to try and expose the Nuggets perceived weakness. If that is to happen then Kobe will need Gasol to pull Kenyon Martin and Nene out of the paint and open lanes for him to drive. With an open lane Kobe can easily attack the rim or find an open man on the perimeter for a jumper.

That perimeter has been a hit or miss proposition for LA as Ariza has had his struggles from the floor as has Kobe and Fisher. For LA to put Denver on their heels they will need those jumpers to fall or the defense will just collapse in the paint and push Bynum and Gasol out.

Tip-off is set for 9:00 p.m. ET.
