John
Wall has ended the speculation around wearing he will be playing college
basketball as the nation’s top high school point guard announced he will be
suiting up for the Kentucky Wildcats and John Calipari next year.
Wall, who attended Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, N.C.,
had been planning on attending Memphis but that was prior to Calipari’s
decision to head to Kentucky. Once Calipari left that opened the door for the recruiting
wars once more and Miami and Duke were in on the action. Wall was said to be
leaning towards Miami but on Tuesday he told head coach Frank Haith that he had
opted to head to the SEC and Kentucky.
With
news that Wall will now be a Wildcat the Kentucky basketball program appears
poised to make a serious run at not only an SEC title but a national title as
well. Kentucky already has Patrick Patterson returning and DeMarcus Cousins,
Daniel Orton and Darnell Dodson coming in and the possibility of Jodie Meeks
opting out of the 2009 NBA Draft.
Wall
has been tapped as the nation’s number one point guard and the fifth overall
player in the country by ESPNU 100.
