Looking for Love? You’re not alone!

“The matchmaking/dating service business is booming!” says Gloria MacDonald, matchmaker, dating and relationship expert and founder of Perfect Partners: The Personal Relationship Executive Search Firm “Now, more than ever, people are looking for new, innovative ways to find someone special.”

MacDonald feels that the extra stress and pressure that the recession is causing for people makes it even more obvious that they don’t have a support system: “Who do you tell about all the stress at work…about the possibility of a layoff…if you don’t have someone to lean on!” More and more people are coming to her saying that they have never felt so alone.

Vancouver, BC based Divine Intervention Principal Susan Semeniw says, "We've definitely noticed a back to the basics mentality. When times are tough and external factors are out of our control, a greater value is placed on the simpler things in life.  People recognize that love and relationships are critical to overall happiness. A loving bond with someone is key. At the end of the day, we crave love and it's a fundamental need. People are eager to invest in what they deem to be important…finding love. It's an investment worth considering, especially now."

Paul, a 52-year-old divorced entrepreneur joined a personalized dating service in April to help him find a life partner.  What he really misses is “the richness of sharing together, enjoying things together, challenging each other, and keeping each other going.”  Carla, a 41-year-old divorced business owner, echoes Paul’s sentiments.  Carla would love to have children and she says “I love sharing my life, life is more rewarding if you have someone to share it with at the end of the day.” Despite the tough economic times, Carla invested over $2500 in February for the services of a matchmaker.

Gloria MacDonald has seen the effects of people not wanting to be alone reflected in record breaking revenues in her Toronto based dating service, Perfect Partners.  “Revenues were up 47% in Q1 of 2009 over 2008.” reports MacDonald. When we’re feeling like our survival is being threatened our most natural instincts kick in.  We literally can’t keep ourselves from looking for love, and even more in difficult times, because we are born with the overpowering instinct to form relationships.  And when it seems like the worldwide financial picture is full of doom and gloom, it feels good to invest in something that provides a light at the end of the tunnel.
