NBA Scores Eastern Conference Finals: Orlando Magic Erase 15-Point Halftime Deficit, Stun Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1

Dwight Howard scored 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Hedo Turkoglu added 15 points and 14 assists and Rashard Lewis finished with 22 points including a game-winning three-pointer to lift the Orlando Magic past the Cleveland Cavaliers 107-106 on Wednesday night to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven Eastern Conference Finals series.

Early on it looked like the Cavaliers were primed for yet another blowout and their ninth straight playoff win as they jumped to a 14-4 lead paced by a pair of three-pointers from Delonte West. Orlando managed to cut the deficit down to seven following a Mickael Pietrus triple but two minutes later the Cavs were up by 14 with a LeBron James three-pointer and that advantage would hold at the end of the frame as Cleveland led 33-19 heading into the second.

In the second quarter Orlando couldn’t do much to cut into that deficit as they managed to get within ten on several occasions but a16-point frame from LeBron kept the Cavaliers in control and they carried a 63-48 lead into the break.

Orlando came out in the third quarter and scored the first six points to finally get within single digits but LeBron continued to stay hot and had his club up by 12 just a minute later. The Magic remained resilient as they used a 7-1 stretch cut their deficit to 71-65 with 5:39 left in the frame. Cleveland would push their lead back to ten but Orlando’s perimeter game was catching as triples from Lewis and Pietrus had the Magic within 75-73 before finishing the quarter down 82-78.

The Magic finished their comeback early in the fourth after Anthony Johnson hit a three-pointer to give Orlando an 85-84 lead, their first advantage of the game. LeBron quickly put the Cavs back in front but a pair of buckets from Dwight Howard gave the Magic a three-point lead and the Cavaliers offense was showing serious signs of trouble. The game remained tight but the Magic managed to move in front 102-98 after Hedo Turkoglu sank a pair of free-throws but an Anderson Varejao layup and a Delonte West three-pointer put the Cavs back in front 103-102 with 40 seconds on the clock. Rashard Lewis countered with a 16-foot jumper to give Orlando a one-point lead but LeBron answered once again as he hit a runner while being fouled and after sinking the free-throw Cleveland was up by two with 25 seconds on the clock. Lewis showed no signs of worry though as he came down and buried a triple with 14 seconds to take a 107-106 lead. Cleveland had one more shot but Delonte West missed an open-look three-pointer and the game ended following a desperation shot off a jump ball.

LeBron owned the second frame as he scored 16 in the quarter

LeBron James finished with a playoff career-high 49 points in the loss while grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing out 8 assists but he was just 6-10 from the foul-line.
