A disgruntled Serbian man who had armed himself with a live grenade, entered the presidential office building in Belgrade and threatened to blow himself up if his demands were not met has been disarmed by police.
According to reports the man, identified as 57-year-old Dragan Maric, was angered over the handling of a legal case and demanded the matter be addressed. It is believed he had sent several thousands of emails warning of his planned actions before he actually walked into the presidential office building.
President Boris Tadic arrived at the building shortly after the incident began but his staff has said he was never in any danger during the incident as Maric had been “sealed off in a safety area between two entrance doors.”
Maric had threatened to detonate the explosive if the government didn’t sign an out of court settlement to resolve the legal matter. After several hours of negotiating with Maric police were able to secure the grenade and he is now in custody.
