College Basketball Recruiting: Lance Stephenson Down to Two Schools, Will Wait Until June

Lance Stephenson, the nation's top-rated unsigned high school basketball prospect, will reportedly wait until after his pending trial to make his college decision public.

According to reports from USA Today, Stephenson, the 6-foot-6 guard from Lincoln H.S. in Brooklyn, NY, will wait until after his upcoming sexual assault case goes to trial before he announces his college choice. His trial will take place on July 29.

Stephenson and teammate Darwin Ellis were charged with allegedly groping a 17-year-old female student outside Lincoln High on Oct. 3.

The case could be dismissed or a plea bargain could be reached, said Stephenson's lawyer Alberto Ebanks to the New York Daily News.

According to Stephenson's father Lance Sr., Stephenson "wants to clear his name before he makes his decision." Stephenson Sr. told USA Today this week that his son has narrowed his list of schools down to two: Maryland and Arizona.

Stephenson's decision is more newsworthy now, because Wednesday was the final day of the late signing period and he has yet to make a decision. Last month, his list of schools included Memphis and St. John's as well, but it has changed weekly.

Fellow unsigned five-star prospect Latavious Williams said told ZagsBlog that he would love to play with Stephenson. Prior to yesterday, Stephenson listed Memphis as a final choice, a school that both players share. Williams, who is ranked No. 17 by Rivals.com, told the blog that Memphis is the leader, followed by Georgetown, but if he committed to the Tigers, he wished Stephenson would join him there.
