NBA Eastern Conference Finals Schedule: Cleveland Cavaliers Try to Even Series with Orlando Magic in Game 2 Friday Night

While the Cleveland Cavaliers found their first eight games of the postseason to be relatively easy, winning each by double-digits, they quickly found out that the Orlando Magic were not the Detroit Pistons or Atlanta Hawks as they blew a 16-point lead and lost Game 1 of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference playoff series.

Friday night will give the Cavaliers a chance to redeem themselves and even the series but if they are to do that they will need more than just LeBron James to show up. LeBron poured in 49 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 8 assists but had no help in the backcourt as Mo Williams and Delonte West combined to shoot 10-32 in the loss. Cleveland didn’t do themselves any favors at the free-throw line either as they hit just 70 percent from the line and, in a 107-106 loss, that figure loomed large.

Cleveland looked solid in the first half of the game and led by as many as 16 points but once they eased up they couldn’t get started again and Orlando took advantage. The Magic did exactly what they did all year and that was hit from the perimeter. While Dwight Howard had a solid game with 30 points and 13 rebounds it was the shooting of Rashard Lewis, Hedo Turkoglu and Mickael Pietrus that really made the difference. The strong perimeter play opened the paint for Howard as the Cavaliers couldn’t drop an extra man on him and when they did he hit the open man for a clean look at the basket.

The Cavaliers lost just twice at home during the regular season and they should be ready to go on Friday but after a cakewalk in their first two series they are realizing that a trip to the NBA Finals is not going to come easily. Orlando has fought through the playoffs with tough series against the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics and those battles may have prepared them well for that Game 1 upset.

Now it’s time to see if Cleveland can bounce back from adversity and regain some momentum in the series.

Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
