93rd Indy 500 Takes Place Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
The
The race, commonly known as the Indy 500, will be the 14th running under the Indy Racing League and is the premier event of the IndyCar Series. It is always scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.
Former Indy 500 winners Helio Castroneves (Penske), Scott Dixon (Ganassi), Dario Franchitti (Ganassi) and Dan Wheldon (Panther) lead a pool that includes Danica Patrick (AGR), A.J. Foyt IV, and John (Petty/Dreyer & Reinbold) and Marco Andretti (AGR).
Castroneves, Dixon, Franchitti, Patrick and Marco Andretti will also compete in the 2009 Indy 500 Pit Stop Challenge on Friday, along with Ryan Briscoe (Penske), Tony Kanaan (AGR), Raphael Matos (Luczo-Dragon), Graham Rahal (N/H/L), and Ryan Hunter-Reay (Vision).
This Memorial Day Weekend will be a premier one for auto racing as the Indy 500 joins the Grand Prix of Monaco and the Coca-Cola 600 as events this weekend.
