North Korea Stages Underground Nuclear Test

One month after pulling out of six-party talks regarding their nuclear program North Korea successfully completed an underground nuclear test on Monday, drawing strong condemnation from the international community.

That condemnation has been ignored by North Korea as they announced on Monday the intention to continue to strengthen its “self-defense nuclear deterrent in every way.”

South Korea was the first to report detection of a nuclear test and the U.S. Geological Agency later confirmed a seismic tremor to have been caused by a nuclear explosion.

North Korea has shown no signs of slowing down its nuclear program, even at the expense of further sanctions against the country. Last month they test-fired a rocket that they said was aimed at placing a communications satellite in orbit yet many believe it to have been a test for a long-range missile.
