Tampa Bay Rays Reward Joe Maddon with Three-Year Extension

The Tampa Bay Rays have extended manager Joe Maddon’s contract through 2012 following a 2008 campaign in which he led franchise to its first winning season and World Series appearance.

After the Rays won just 66 games in 2007 Maddon put together a magical lineup that compiled a 97-65 record en route to winning the American League East crown and then the AL pennant before falling to the Philadelphia Phillies in the Fall Classic.

Maddon was named AL manager of the year in 2008 and has his team sitting even at 23-23 in the 2009 season, four games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East.
