Dinara Safina, still in serach of her first career Grand Slam singles title, got off to an impressive start at the French Open on Monday as the world ‘s number one crushed Anne Keothavong in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at Roland Garros to advance to the second round.
Safina needed just 61 minutes to cruise past Keothavong as she attacked the Brit’s serve all match long; breaking her on six of 14 opportunities while surviving a pair of breaks herself. The Russian also collected 24 winners compared to just 4 for Keothavong.
Safina reached the finals of the French Open last year but fell to Ana Ivanovic. In 2009 she reached the finals at the Australian Open but again fell, this time to Serena Williams. Despite never winning a Grand Slam singles title Safina reached number one in the rankings on April 27, 2009.
