NBA Scores Western Conference Finals: Denver Nuggets Use Big Fourth Quarter to Bury Los Angeles Lakers, Head to LA Tied 2-2

Chauncey Billups and J.R. Smith each had 24 points, Kenyon Martin added 13 points and 15 rebounds and Chris Andersen finished with 6 points and 14 boards as the Denver Nuggets used a big fourth quarter to get past the Los Angeles Lakers 120-101 and even their best-of-seven Western Conference Finals series at 2-2.

Denver started quick as they jumped to a 12-5 lead over the first six minutes and held a 22-19 lead at the end of the first frame with Kenyon Martin leading all Nuggets players with nine points while Kobe Bryant led LA, scoring nine of his game-high 34 points in the first quarter. The Nuggets started the second quarter much like they did the first as they opened with a 13-3 run to build a 35-22 lead four minutes into the quarter. That 13-point advantage held for some time but the Lakers would use a 10-2 run to close their deficit to 46-42 before ending the half trailing 52-45.

Los Angeles was able to get within 56-53 early in the third quarter but the Nuggets used a 10-2 run of their own to build a 66-55 cushion and eventually pushed their lead to 14 following a J.R. Smith triple before Sasha Vujacic answered with a triple of his own to keep the Lakers within 11 at the end of the quarter. Andrew Bynum opened the fourth with pair of buckets to get LA within 77-70 but then Chauncey Billups completed a three-point play and then sank a three-pointer and Denver was back in front by 13. The Lakers were able to get as close as ten in the quarter but Denver showed n signs of collapsing as they evened the series at two games apiece.

Denver managed to get to the foul-line 49 times, hitting 37 from the stripe and out-rebounded Los Angeles 58-40 on the night.
