Bernstein Liebhard LLP Investigating Potential Reglan Lawsuits

The Reglan lawyers at Bernstein Liebhard LLP are currently reviewing potential Reglan lawsuits for individuals who experienced serious side effects after taking a drug containing metoclopramide, such as Reglan Oral Disintegrating Tablets, Metoclopramide Oral Solution, or Reglan Injection.

Reglan Side Effects

High doses and/or long term use of Reglan may lead to a drug-induced movement disorder known as tardive dyskinesia. Tardive means “delayed” and dyskinesia means ”abnormal movement.” Tardive dyskinesia is characterized by involuntary, repetitive movements of the extremities such as lip smacking, grimacing, rapid eye movements, and puckering or pursing of the lips.

Unfortunately, symptoms of
Reglan tardive dyskinesia are rarely reversible and there is no known treatment. However, in some patients, symptoms may lesson or resolve after Reglan treatment is stopped. Those at greatest risk for developing tardive dyskinesia include the elderly, especially older women, and people who have been taking Reglan for a long time (longer than 12 weeks).

Reglan Litigation & MDL Petition

To date, at least 15 different Reglan lawsuits have been filed in more than 10 jurisdictions across the U.S. The Reglan lawsuits allege that the manufacturers failed to adequately warn consumers about the risk of tardive dyskinesia and other serious Reglan side effects.

Because Reglan lawsuits are becoming so numerous, victims have filed a motion with the federal Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to consolidate their Reglan lawsuits before one judge. Oral arguments on the motion will be heard on May 28, 2009 in Louisville, Kentucky. Transferring the Reglan lawsuits to one forum will not only save time, but will also help eliminate conflicting rulings and schedules.
