Serena
Williams, in search of her 11th career Grand Slam singles title, got
off to a rough start at the French Open on Tuesday but the American managed to
survive a determined Klara Zakopalova, knocking off the Czech 6-3, 6-7 (5-7),
6-4 at Roland Garros.
Williams
struggled all day with her serve as she placed just 55 percent of her first
offerings in play and had four double-faults. She did manage to collect five
aces and had little trouble handling Zakopalova’s serve, breaking her on seven
of 20 chances.
Williams
has achieved a career Grand Slam with four titles at the Australian Open (2003,
2005, 2007, 2009), three titles at the U.S. Open (1999, 2002, 2008), two at
Wimbledon (2002, 2003) and a French Open title (2002).
