The Duke of Kent presented Roger Federer with his fourth straight Wimbledon trophy symbolizing the Swiss’ dominance on the English Centre Court. Federer, who had lost four previous finals matches to the Spanish Nadal earlier this year, finished off the world’s number two in four sets earlier today.

It looked like Federer would make quick work of the Spaniard after easily handling him in the first set 6-0. Nadal proved he was willing to do battle with reigning champ in the second set but eventually dropped it in a tie breaker 7-6(5). The third frame saw Federer drop his only set of the tournament 6-7(2), but he quickly regained his form and finished Nadal off in the fourth set 6-3.

Practically unstoppable on the grass surface, Federer looked comfortable despite facing the only opponent that has beaten him this year. With strong serves and fluid returns, Federer took advantage of the one surface that poses a problem for Nadal. Coming into the match Nadal held a career 6-1 record against Federer in championship meetings. Four of those events were on clay while the other two were on hard court. Grass proved to be the remedy for Federer who won his 48th consecutive match on the surface and his eighth Grand Slam event in his career.

Federer became the eighth man to win four or more Wimbledon titles.
