White Tiger Kills Zookeeper at Zion Wildlife Gardens as Tourist Watch

A white tiger mauled a zookeeper to death at a New Zealand wildlife park Wednesday.  Police say a group of 8 tourists witnessed the attack.

Two zookeepers entered the cats’ enclosure at Zion Wildlife Gardens to clean when one of the tigers lunged at a keeper. The other keeper and other zoo staff attempted to pull the tiger off but failed. The man died shortly after.

The tiger was put down. “This is an incredibly sad day,” the park said in a statement.

Zion Wildlife Gardens is located near Whangarei and is featured on the TV series ‘Lion Man.’ It is home to endangered tigers and lions.
