Pakistani Government Blames Taliban for Deadly Lahore Attacks

Pakistan has blamed the Taliban for a deadly attack in Lahore which has left at least 23 people killed and several hundred injured.

According to reports a group of armed Taliban militants opened fire on police officers before detonating a car bomb that severely damaged buildings belonging to the security and intelligence agency ISI. It is believed the attack was carried out as an act of revenge for the Pakistani military offensive in Swat valley.

Rescue workers are still searching the rubble, searching for survivors who may have been buried beneath the fallen buildings. The death toll of 23 is expected to rise significantly.

Taliban militants have been threatening to step up their attacks against Pakistan ever since the government made a push against the insurgents. Over the past month the Pakistani military has said they have killed more than 1,000 militants in the Swat valley, located near the Afghan border.
