Is Percodan drug rehab neccessary for a Percodan addiction?

Percodan is one of the brand names for one of numerous analgesics or painkillers that are manufactured from a combination of two different painkillers, namely aspirin and oxycodone. Oxycodone HCL is categorized in a group of drugs which are referred to as narcotic analgesics and is usually synthesized from an opium derivative known as thebaine. Naturally, aspirin is much less potent than oxycodone. However, it is also viewed as an anti-inflammatory and helps to reduce fevers.

Interestingly enough, oxycodone was developed in Germany in 1916 as a semi-synthetic opiate along with a number of others in to improve the current opiates and opioids such as codeine, heroin, and morphine. Currently, Percodan is most commonly prescribed as a painkiller for moderate to severe pain and is taken orally. It can be prescribed as either a compound medication or as the sole ingredient.

Side effects to be aware of

As with any type of prescribed medicine, Percodan is not free from side effects. The following are some of the more common ones to be aware of:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Constipation
  • Diaphoresis (excessive sweating)
  • Dizziness and fainting
  • Dry mouth
  • Euphoria (an emotional or mental state of profound well-being)
  • Fatigue and drowsiness
  • Headaches
  • Lightheadedness
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Pruritus (itchiness and the compelling desire to scratch)

Percodan has also been found to cause other side effects such as pain in the abdomen, loss of appetite, vision dimness, diarrhea, hiccups, and nervousness.

Percodan addiction and withdrawal

Percodan is viewed as a powerfully addictive narcotic and can lead to dependency which will ultimately lead to a percodan rehab. Due to the fact that no two individuals are alike, each individual’s body handles Percodan differently than other. It is extremely habit forming and addictions to the drug frequently occur over the long term. If you feel you or a loved one is addicted to Percodan, here are some of the warning signs to be aware of and to consider:

  • Accidental injury
  • Blurry vision
  • Constipation
  • Cravings that aren’t always normal
  • Dizziness and lightheadedness
  • Euphoria
  • Fainting
  • Mental and/or physical impairment
  • Nausea and vomiting

If you or someone you know has been experiencing any of the above, it may be necessary to enter a Percodan drug rehab at Delray Recovery Center to help you with the current circumstances.
