Rafael
Nadal stayed on course for his fifth straight French Open title with another straight
set win on Wednesday as he disposed of Teimuraz Gabashvili 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 to
advance to the third round at Roland Garros.
Nadal
committed just 19 unforced errors in the match and capitalized on his break
point opportunities as he converted on five of his 13 chances while never
allowing Gabashvili to break his serve. The Spaniard won 74 percent of his
first serves put in play and 70 percent of his second serves while Gabashvili
was punished on his second offerings, winning just 36 percent.
Nadal,
the world’s number one, has already won the Australian Open this year and is
looking to continue his dominance on the clay court’s at Roland Garros where he
has won the past four years, defeating Roger Federer in 2006, 2007 and 2008. In
2008 Nadal captured his first Wimbledon title leaving only the U.S. Open as the
only Grand Slam event the 22-year-old Spaniard hasn’t won.
