Violence Following Barcelona’s Victory Over Manchester United in Champions League Final Leaves more than 80 Officers Injured

More than 80 Spanish police officers have been injured following clashes with fans of Barcelona who had taken to the streets to celebrate their side’s football victory over rival Manchester United in the Champions League final held in Rome on Wednesday.

Shortly after Barcelona defeated Manchester United fans poured into the streets of the Spanish city and began celebrating. Those celebrations quickly turned into acts of destruction as windows were smashed and fires set, leading to police intervening.

When officers arrived they were hit by bottles as fans began to riot. Officials estimated that at least 500 people were involved in the clashes and said more than $139,000 of damage was caused.
