17 Dead In Angola Air Force Plane Crash

An Angola National Air Force aircraft carrying 23 people crashed during takeoff Wednesday. According to reports, the Embraer-120 went down around 11:30 a.m. at Albano Machado Airport in Huambo province.

Angola authorities say seventeen people, including six civilians and three military generals, died. One civilian and five crew members survived the crash.

Witnesses say the plane burst into flames before it hit the ground. The cause of the crash is unclear and is under investigation by the air force. Provincial aviation officials told the Jornal de Angola newspaper that "technical problems" may have been a factor in the accident. No other details were available.
