Jelena
Jankovic moved a step closer to capturing her first career Grand Slam singles
title on Thursday after breezing past Magdalena Rybarikova in straight sets
6-1, 6-2 at the French Open.
Jankovic
looked dominant as she committed just eight unforced errors and she feasted on
a poor service game from Rybarikova. The Slovakian put just 50 percent of her
first serves in play and won only 38 percent of those offerings while providing
Jankovic with 21 break point
opportunities withteh Serb taking advantage of six of those chances.
Jankovic’s
best finish at the French Open has been a semifinals appearance, something she
accomplished in 2007 and 2008 before falling to Justine Henin and Ana Ivanovic.
Her best Grand Slam singles finish was a finals appearance at the U.S. Open in
2008.
