New Zealand, Japan and Cuba were hit by earthquakes within one hour of each other Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey reports.
The first tremor struck about 422 miles off the coast of New Zealand at 7:53 p.m. local time. The 6.0 magnitude quake had a depth of 8 miles. There were no immediate reports of major damages or injuries.
About 7 minutes after New Zealand’s temblor, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Japan at a depth of 6 miles. The epicenter was located about 140 miles northeast of Tokyo. Authorities did not receive any reports of damages or injuries.
Cuba was rattled by a 6.0 magnitude earthquake 45 minutes later. The epicenter was located about 25 miles off the southern coast. The quake, which was 6.6 miles deep, did not cause any damages or injuries.
