John Wall, Nation's Top HS Basketball Player, Pleads Guilty to Misdemeanor

John Wall, the nation’s top high school basketball prospect, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge of breaking and entering in a Raleigh, NC court.

Wall, the University of Kentucky recruit, was placed into a program for first-time offenders. He will have his record expunged if he completes the requirements of a plea deal, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.

Wake County assistant district attorney Phillip Cowan told the Raleigh newspaper that Wall must complete 75 hours of community service, pay court costs and program fees and stay out of trouble for the next six months.

Police detained Wall, 18, after observing him leaving out the back of an unoccupied home in Raleigh on April 27. Two minors were also detained and charged in connection with the break-in. Police said there was no forced entry and nothing to indicate anything was missing from the residence.

Wall, the 6-foot-4, 180-pound point guard from Word of God Academy in Raleigh, is ranked No. 1 by Rivals.com and No. 5 by ESPN, and was recently named the Associated Press North Carolina Player of the Year.

Wall signed with UK last week, giving the Wildcats and new coach John Calipari the nation's No. 1 recruiting class. Wall joins DeMarcus Cousins (No. 3 by Rivals.com), Daniel Orton (No. 22), Eric Bledsoe (No. 23), Jon Hood (No. 40) and Darnell Dodson.
