Rafael
Nadal looked unstoppable at the French Open once again as the Spaniard made
short work of Lleyton Hewitt, dropping the Aussie in straight sets 6-1, 6-3,
6-1 to advance out of the third round at Roland Garros and stay in line for his
fifth straight title at the Grand Slam event.
Nadal
was efficient as ever as he placed 76 percent of his first serves in play and
won 76 percent of those offerings. He collected 7 aces in the match while
committing just 17 unforced errors, a drastic difference from Hewitt who had
two aces and 35 unforced errors. Nadal feasted on Hewitt’s serve, converting
seven of 13 break point opportunities.
Nadal,
the world’s number one, has already won the Australian Open this year and is
looking to continue his dominance on the clay court’s at Roland Garros where he
has won the past four years, defeating Roger Federer in 2006, 2007 and 2008. In
2008 Nadal captured his first Wimbledon title leaving only the U.S. Open as the
only Grand Slam event the 22-year-old Spaniard hasn’t won.
