Karine Ruby, an Olympic snowboarding gold medalist, died Friday
in a climbing accident. Ruby was climbing Mont Blanc in France when she fell
into a deep crack. No other details about her death were available. She was 31.
Ruby won a gold medal at the 1998 Olmypics and a silver
medal at the 2002 Olympics. She had 65 snowboard World Cup wins.
French Prime minister Francois Fillon released a
statement Friday saying, “Karine incarnated the emergence of snowboarding in
France. The people of France will hold on to the memory of her talent and her
joie de vivre.”
