U.S. Defense Officials Claim North Korea Planning More Missile Launches

U.S. Defense officials have said North Korea appears to be preparing for further missile launches, further escalating tension in the region.

Officials supported their allegations with satellite photos that revealed activity near a site from which previous missiles had been launched. Over the past week North Korea has launched six missiles, most recently on Friday.

The U.S. has been monitoring activity at missile sites within North Korea as well as at facilities that are believed to be used by the country for their military.

Two days ago North Korea said it was abandoning a long standing truce it held with South Korea after they joined the U.S.-led Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) which would stop ships and search their contents for weapons.

The UN has condemned the recent actions of North Korea yet the country has threatened “self-defense” measures if sanctions are imposed.
