Alcohol Rehab: Why Would A Christian Need Outside Help?

faith is essential to alcoholics in their recovery

No one sets out to become and alcoholic. Every family of an alcoholic has the best of intentions. They hope that love and encouragement will overcome the urge to drink. However, how many more times will the alcoholic say "just one more glass of wine, or one more rum and coke." Alcohol addiction can destroy every aspect of a person’s life. Health, job and family suffer the effects of alcoholism. The only real solution is alcohol detox followed by alcohol rehab. Combined, they will give the best chance of taking back control of your life.

No one is immune to the demons that surround an addiction to alcohol, not even a Christian. Those who have faith in Christ’s love and grace can still benefit from the completion of an alcohol rehab program, when it is based in Biblical teachings and support from pastors and Christian therapists. For many Christian alcoholics, the paradox that they cannot achieve sobriety without faith, but they cannot have effective faith without sobriety, is what compels them to enter an alcohol detox and alcohol rehab program.

The Bible Says, "for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23. God understands that we are going to make errors and get caught up in sin. His plan of forgiveness covers all sin, including the sins that stem from addiction.

While faith is essential to alcoholics in their recovery, a true and lasting sobriety can be achieved when it works together with a quality alcohol detox and alcohol rehab program. Getting the alcohol and its toxins out of the body, through alcohol detox, must be the first priority for any alcoholic. Once this step is completed, the foundation for learning how to enjoy life without relying on "just another drink" can be established. While alcoholism is a disease, it is one that responds well to proper treatment. Faith is the foundational ingredient in recovery that is needed to support the journey to freedom.
