A strong earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean near the Fiji Islands Friday morning around 7:30 local time, the U.S. Geological Survey announced. The epicenter of the 7.3 magnitude earthquake was located about 74 miles south-southwest of Ndoi Island at a depth of 390 miles.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center and the Japan Metrological Agency did not release any tsunami warnings. There were no reports of damages or injuries.
Friday’s earthquake comes a day after three earthquakes hit New Zealand, Japan and Cuba within one hour of each other. The first tremor struck about 422 miles off the coast of New Zealand at 7:53 p.m. local time. The 6.0 magnitude quake had a depth of 8 miles. About 7 minutes later, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Japan at a depth of 6 miles. The epicenter was located about 140 miles northeast of Tokyo. Cuba was rattled by a 6.0 magnitude earthquake about 45 minutes later. The epicenter was located about 25 miles off the southern coast at a depth of 6.6 miles. No damages or injuries were reported.
