College prep camps have value to new high school graduates and to students still in high school, according to the president of a summer enrichment program that offers camps for both of these groups.
Bobbi DePorter, who launched SuperCamp's academic summer camps 28 years ago, says that students preparation for college varies depending upon where they are in their academic timeline.
"Students who graduate high school in June can gain valuable college-level life skills by attending our eight-day college summer camp, Quantum U," says DePorter. "Younger students in high school and even in middle school can develop powerful learning skills and important communication and interpersonal skills in our ten-day SuperCamp programs that will help them succeed in high school and build their confidence and focus as they approach college."
Her statements are supported by results from major studies with SuperCamp graduates, which show that the majority of these students increase their grades, confidence, self-esteem and motivation. A recent survey with SuperCamp graduates indicated that 88 percent of them went on to attend college immediately after graduating high school. Forty-one percent of respondents said they received a college scholarship, as well.
Quantum U's eight-day program is held at Colorado College August 2-9. Participants gain direction on several life management aspects of college reflecting the new autonomy they experience. Topics include time management, money management, maintaining their health through a proper diet, exercise and sleep, and managing relationships with friends, fellow students and professors.
In a similar vein, high school and middle school students who attend SuperCamp learn about taking responsibility for their own actions, which is an important breakthrough for many teens, in particular. At the same time, these students gain confidence during the ten days with the help of the SuperCamp staff's well orchestrated mini-success moments that the campers experience.
The academic skills portion of both programs, Quantum U and SuperCamp, are equally significant. Students gain grade-appropriate skills in such areas as writing, reading, critical thinking, problem solving, test taking and test preparation. All students gain a clear knowledge of their optimal learning style, which helps them with their ability to grasp and retain more information when they study.
The Quantum Learning methods that drive the SuperCamp and Quantum U programs are also used in thousands of schools worldwide. Over 40,000 teachers have been trained in these methods, which help to develop the whole student.
While some camps are already full, there is space remaining in some camps. Parents can call 800-285-3276 to speak with an enrollment specialist or visit SuperCamp.com to view videos and enroll online.
