Jelena Jankovic continued to cruise at the 2009 French Open on Saturday as she breezed past Jarmila Groth in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to move into the fourth round at Roland Garros and inch closer to capturing her first career Grand Slam singles title.
Jankovic needed just 1:06 to dispatch the Aussie as she had complete control of her serve, placing 72 percent of her first serves in play and winning 68 percent of those. In comparison Groth struggled with her serve, winning just 37 percent of her first serves and committed 32 unforced errors.
Jankovic’s best finish at the French Open has been a semifinals appearance, something she accomplished in 2007 and 2008 before falling to Justine Henin and Ana Ivanovic. Her best Grand Slam singles finish was a finals appearance at the U.S. Open in 2008.
