NBA Eastern Conference Finals Scores: Orlando Magic on to NBA Finals with Win Over Cleveland Cavaliers

Dwight Howard scored 40 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, Rashard Lewis added 18 points and 8 boards and Mickael Pietrus finished with 14 points including four three-pointers as the Orlando Magic used a big second quarter and then cruised past the Cleveland Cavaliers 103-90 on Saturday night to win their best-of-seven Eastern Conference finals 4-2 and advance to the NBA Finals.

Orlando never trailed in the game as they came out in the opening frame and hit open shots to take a 19-12 lead with 5:15 left in the quarter. Cleveland was able to trim their deficit to one following three-pointers from Daniel Gibson and LeBron James but the Magic built some breathing room following a Howard dunk and a Pietrus triple and at the end of the quarter they were up 30-25.

The Magic quickly extended their lead to 11 in the opening minutes of the second and after Rashard Lewis hit a three and Howard added another dunk the advantage was up to 49-34 and the Cavaliers were slipping. Anderson Varejao kept the Cavs within four in the final minute but the Magic closed the half with the final four points to claim their biggest lead of the game at 58-40.

Cleveland opened the third with an 8-1 spurt to climb back to within 11 and eventually pulled as close as 66-56 following a Mo Williams triple but the Magic wouldn’t fold and by the end of the quarter their lead was back up to 16 with just one quarter separating them from an NBA Finals appearance.

Orlando would leave no doubt about the outcome as they started the fourth with a triple from Pietrus and a running jumper from Howard to go up by 21 and the Cavs had no run left in them.

Orlando out-rebounded Cleveland 47-34 and hit 81 percent of their free throws with Howard sinking 12-16 to lead the way.
