Massage Envy Clients Say Massage Therapy Eases Pain of Arthritis Massage Envy’s Healing Hands Day – October 12

The word is out about Massage Envy Eldorado Parkway in McKinney. Among the clinic’s members are several who receive massage therapy to cope with arthritis pain. Two share how regular massage allows them to go about their lives and are happy to have a location so close to them.

For Denise Laman, arthritis is a family affair. Both of her parents have arthritis, as did all of her grandparents. She was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis over 30 years ago, which affects most of her body, and now her son has arthritis. In recent years, Denise was also found to have psoriatic arthritis in her feet. “My elbows are about the only part of me that isn’t affected,” she laughs.

Arthritis leaves Denise with a burning sensation. She goes to Massage Envy about twice a month for what she calls pain management. After a session, the burning has eased to more of a tingle, “as if something is being released,” Denise says. While she has to take arthritis and anti-inflammatory medication, massage therapy allows her to stay off pain medicine.

Massage therapy “is a godsend,” states Denise, adding that her massage therapist at Massage Envy, Jane, is “awesome.” Denise has used massage for a long time to deal with the affects of arthritis and credits her brother, a massage therapist and acupuncturist, for recommending massage therapy. Without massage, “I couldn’t function without more medication – I only take two now. I probably wouldn’t even by walking.”

“It’s a lifestyle issue,” states Pam Knies, referring to managing her arthritis. Simple, everyday activities aggravate and cause pain. “Driving is the worst, but even pulling weeds is a problem,” she says.

Pam was diagnosed with arthritis about 1½ years ago but has had pain for about 10 years. She has been going to Massage Envy for massage therapy 1 to 2 times a week for the last year. “I have a really bad back, and massage keeps me from taking medication.” Eventually she will need to have surgery, but massage allows her to manage the pain until then.

She understands that not everyone likes to be touched. But, “I tell everyone I know how good massage makes me feel,” says Pam. “It’s affordable, and anyone who has known me awhile can see the difference.”
