Ana Ivanovic will not repeat at the French Open after the Serb was pounded by Belarus’s Victoria Azarenka in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 on the clay courts of Roland Garros.
Azarenka dominated Ivanovic with an efficient serve that placed 81 percent of her first offering sin play and resulted in winning points 68 percent of the time. Azarenka committed just seven unforced errors compared to 20 for Ivanovic who never got going on the day.
Azarenka has yet to win a Grand Slam singles title and her run at the 2009 French Open has been her deepest at any Grand Slam event. She reached the fourth round at the Australian Open earlier this year before falling to Serena Williams in a match she had to retire from while leading. Azarenka also appeared in the fourth round at the 2007 U.S. Open where she lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova. She has reached the third round at Wimbledon twice
