Millvina Dean, Last Titanic Survivor, Dies at 97

Millvina Dean, the last survivor of the sinking of RMS Titanic, has died. Dean died in her sleep Sunday, says her friend Gunter Babler. She was 97.

Dean was only 2-months-old when the Titanic sank in 1912. She died at a nursing him in southern England. Dean’s longtime partner Bruno Nordmanis said nursing him staff had discovered Dean’s body Sunday morning.

She was hospitalized last week with pneumonia but had recovered and returned to the nursing home.

Dean made headlines earlier this year when she began auctioning off Titanic mementos to pay her medical bills. Earlier this month, actors Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio, from the 1997 hit ‘Titanic,’ announced they had set up a fund to help Dean. Read more on Millvina Dean
