Roger
Federer remained on track for his first French Open singles title and the final
piece to a career Grand Slam puzzle after staging a huge comeback against Tommy
Hass and knocking off the German in a five-set battle 6-7 (4-7), 5-7, 6-4, 6-0,
6-2 at Roland Garros.
Federer
hammered out 16 aces and committed just one double-fault in the match as he was
extremely efficient with is first serve, winning 85 percent of those put in
play. Federer scored 60 winners in the match while Haas, who stunned Federer
early, began to fade by the fourth set and really mounted no challenge at the end.
Federer
is sitting on 13 career Grand Slam singles titles, just one behind the record
held by Pete Sampras. A win at Roland Garros would also mark a career Grand
Slam for Federer as he has won Wimbledon five times, the U.S. Open five times
and the Australian Open three times. Federer has reached the finals of the
French Open the last three years only to fall to Rafael Nadal on each occasion.
