North Korea’s Kim Jong-il Reportedly Taps Youngest Son as Successor

North Korea’s Kim Jong-il has reportedly tapped his youngest son, Kim Jong-un, as his successor and diplomats have allegedly already been told to support the selection.

It was South Korean intelligence that reported the news, saying the announcement came shortly after North Korea conducted their underground nuclear test on May 25. With Kim Jon-il’s health still in question following an apparent stroke last year there has been wide speculation over who would assume power and now Tuesday’s news appears to put the talk to rest.

According to a South Korean newspaper the North has already begun teaching its people a song praising Kim Jong-un.

Not much is known about the youngest son of Kim Jong-il other than he attended a Swiss school where he studied English, French and German. He is believed to be between 24 and 25-years-old.
