Robin
Soderling, fresh off his shocking victory over Rafael Nadal in the fourth
round, continued to roll through the French Open as he needed just three sets
to knock off Nikolay Davydenko, scoring a 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 win in the quarterfinals.
Soderling
controlled the match with an efficient serve that produced winners on 78
percent of his first offerings put in play and an amazing 72 percent on his
second offerings. The Swede collected 34 winners in the match compared to just
15 from Davydenko.
Soderling
had never made it past the third round of a Grand Slam prior to the 2009 French
Open. He had reached the third round of Wimbledon twice, most recently in 2007,
and the third round of the U.S. Open in 2005 while reaching the second round of
the Australian Open earlier this year. Soderling did reach the third round of
the French Open last year.
